Sourcing guide · India's solid-wood hub

Why source solid wood furniture from Jodhpur, India's solid-wood export hub.

If your range is built on real solid wood — sheesham, mango, acacia, teak and reclaimed timber — Jodhpur is where it is made for the world. This is the buyer's case for sourcing there: the woods, the seasoning and kiln-drying that keep furniture stable in Western homes, the compliance, and the order sizes that let you start small and scale to containers.

The short answer

Jodhpur is where India makes solid wood furniture — and where it is dried to last.

Plenty of countries export "wood" furniture. Few make genuine solid-wood pieces at scale, and fewer still dry the timber properly for the dry, heated homes it ships to. Jodhpur does both. It is India's recognised centre for solid-wood and wood-and-iron furniture, with the carving and joinery depth a character-led range needs — and, done right, the seasoning and kiln-drying discipline that stops solid wood cracking after delivery. Sourced through a compliant exporter, that is a shelf-ready, customs-ready product.

Six reasons buyers source solid wood here

What makes Jodhpur the right origin for solid wood furniture.

Genuine solid wood, not panel

Sheesham (Indian rosewood), mango, acacia, teak and reclaimed wood — built as real solid-wood furniture with mortise-and-tenon and dovetail joinery, never veneered chipboard dressed up as "wood".

Dried for Western climates

Automated seasoning plants and multi-day kiln-drying bring timber to a stable moisture content, so pieces hold their shape in air-conditioned and centrally-heated interiors instead of splitting.

Deepest carving & metalwork skill

Generations of Jodhpur carpenters, carvers and ironworkers — plus a vetted network reaching Moradabad brass, Saharanpur carving and Jaipur stone and inlay — give design depth volume origins can't match.

Start small, scale to containers

An LCL trial order before you commit, then 20ft and 40ft containers up to around 60 a month from our two Boranada units as the programme grows.

Compliance documented

FSC, Vriksh, EUDR-ready due diligence, Lacey Act support, UKTR, CARB / TSCA finishes and ISPM-15 packing — the paperwork that keeps a timber container moving at your port.

One accountable maker

A Government-recognised Star Export House founded in 2012, not a trading desk — so pricing is cost-advantaged, QC sits with us, and your furniture, metalware and décor ship in one compliant container.

The quality that decides repeat orders

Seasoning and kiln-drying — why Jodhpur solid wood survives a heated home.

The number-one claim on imported solid wood is movement: a tabletop that cups, a joint that opens, a panel that splits weeks after it reaches a dry, centrally-heated interior. Almost always the cause is the same — timber that was never dried to a stable moisture content before it was built.

Our process is built to remove that risk. Raw Jodhpur timber is chemically treated against borer and fungus, seasoned in automated plants, then kiln-dried over multiple days until its moisture content is low and even. Only then is it cut, carved and assembled. The result is furniture engineered to hold its shape across an ocean voyage and years in air-conditioned or heated rooms — the difference between a one-time order and a repeat programme.

From an LCL trial to 60 containers a month — from one Star Export House.

Jodhpur Handicraft has exported solid-wood furniture since 2012 and is recognised by the Government of India as a Star Export House. Manufacturing runs across two units — more than 35,000 sq m at 4th & 5th Phase, Boranada, Jodhpur — with container-loading bays, gantry cranes and large staging warehouses, so orders are built, dried, staged and loaded in-house.

You can start with a sample or an LCL trial, move to a 20ft container for best pricing, and scale to repeat full-container programmes of up to around 60 containers a month. We are members of EPCH, the Jodhpur Handicrafts Exporters Association (JHEA) and FIEO, holding IEC, GST and MSME/Udyam registrations. Jodhpur vs other origins

Where solid wood from Jodhpur wins — and where it doesn't.

An honest comparison. For genuine solid-wood, carved and finished furniture, Jodhpur is the clear choice; for lowest-cost high-volume panel goods, another origin may suit. We will tell you honestly when that is the case.

Questions buyers ask

Sourcing solid wood furniture from Jodhpur — frequently asked questions.

Why source solid wood furniture from Jodhpur specifically?

Jodhpur, Rajasthan is the recognised global hub for solid-wood and wood-and-iron furniture — the deepest single concentration of carving, joinery and finishing skill in India. Buying there, rather than from a general trading desk, means genuine solid wood (not veneered panel), the species Western ranges want, and the scale to go from a trial order to repeat containers. Jodhpur Handicraft adds the part most Jodhpur workshops cannot: a Government-recognised Star Export House founded in 2012, two Boranada manufacturing units over 35,000 sq m, and documented timber-legality and market compliance.

What solid woods does Jodhpur furniture use?

Primarily sheesham (Indian rosewood, Dalbergia sissoo), mango and acacia, plus teak, reclaimed/old wood, rosewood, rubberwood and pine. Sheesham is the signature export timber — dense, richly grained and durable; mango and acacia offer lighter tones and value; reclaimed wood suits sustainability-led ranges. Every piece has a solid-wood heart; we do not position as a plywood or panel supplier.

Will solid wood furniture from India crack in a dry or centrally-heated climate?

Not when it is properly dried, and this is exactly where sourcing matters. Raw Jodhpur timber is chemically treated, run through automated seasoning plants and kiln-dried over several days to a stable moisture content before a single piece is built. Correctly seasoned, kiln-dried solid wood holds its shape in dry, air-conditioned or centrally-heated Western interiors — the biggest cause of post-delivery cracking is skipped or rushed drying, which we do not do.

What is the minimum order for solid wood furniture from Jodhpur?

A trial or sample order can ship LCL (part container). For best wholesale pricing thereafter, one 20ft full container load (FCL) is our standard minimum, and we consolidate mixed categories — furniture, metalware, marble and décor — into a single compliant container. Our two Boranada units can load up to around 60 containers a month as your programme grows.

Is solid wood furniture from India compliant for the US and EU?

Yes. We document FSC chain-of-custody and Vriksh timber-legality, are EUDR-ready with geolocation and deforestation-free due diligence, and support US Lacey Act declarations, UK Timber Regulation and CARB / TSCA Title VI finishes, with ISPM-15 heat-treated export packing. Note that finished sheesham (Dalbergia) furniture is exempt from CITES permits since CoP19 (2022, Annotation 15) — we still provide full legality proof. Certificate numbers are shared directly with serious buyers on request.

How is Jodhpur different from sourcing solid wood furniture from Vietnam or China?

India leads on genuine solid-wood and handcrafted furniture rather than panel or flat-pack volume, with hand-carving and metalwork heritage that mass-production origins cannot replicate. Jodhpur also offers small-MOQ flexibility — an LCL trial before you commit to containers — and single-source breadth across wood, iron, brass, marble and inlay. For buyers diversifying away from China tariffs, it is a credible, compliance-ready second origin.
